Winner Melton Times Life Through the Lens Competition (February 26, 2008)

Trio snap up our camera prizes

Misty Morning, HicklingThe winning pictures in our spec-tacular Life Through A Lens competition have been chosen.

They were picked from nearly 200 entries submitted by readers over the course of 2007 as we celebrated life in Melton and the Vale of Belvoir.

The three age category winners will now each be presented with a Pentax digital camera by sponsors Specsavers Opticians of Sherrard Street.

The judges, Deputy Mayor Norman Slater, Marshall Bradley of Melton's Specsavers and Melton Times photographer Jim Harrison, said they were impressed with the number and quality of the entries.

Councillor Slater said: "I want to congratulate all those who entered, the overall standard was excellent."

And Mr Bradley added: "It was great to see so many local events captured. Local people clearly love all the shows and festivals staged here and that's great for the town."

Our exhibition, featuring about 60 shortlisted entries, has now moved from the King Street Art Gallery to the Melton Times reception where it will stay until the end of February.

People viewing the exhibition can bid for each mounted print with the proceeds being split between the Specsavers' charity of

the year, Diabetes UK, and Melton Shopmobility.

In addition, all those who sign the visitors' book will be entered into a free prize draw to win a £50 Specsavers voucher.
